S.R.Kanthi College of Education Library started working
with initial collection of 900 books in the academic year 1986-87.
For the first three years we collected textbooks in Kannada and English
Medium. After words with the intention of building a good reference
section we purchased dictionaries, encyclopedias, gazetteers, atlases,
yearbooks etc. Now we have a collection of 507 volumes in 135 titles
in reference section.
At present we have subscribed for 10 professional journals in Education
subject and have 140 back volumes in 20 titles. Our Reading Room consists
of 13 newspapers ( 1 English) and 4 magazines ( 1 English).
We have 11,614 books in total, 8,407 Textbooks in 3,135 Titles, other
3,237 books cover reference and other subject areas. Educational CD’s
and Encyclopedias in CD forms kept in Computer Laboratory- supplement
our library resources.
With these resources we are giving book circulation, reference, Clipping
Photocopying, computer and internet facilities to our readers.
Internet based software BOOKNEST is introduced for library automation.
Data entry work was started in March 2013 and it has covered 10,299
books so for. Bar-coding work of these books is in process.
